Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Por Pramuk, who went missing from his training camp for over a week, appeared before the public yesterday and blamed his handlers for the disappearance.

The boxer also announced he had left Por Pramuk boxing camp.

Buakaw went absent on March 5, leading to two scheduled fights being cancelled.The boxer had been due to travel to Japan with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra last week for a bout but he disappeared before the trip.

In his first public appearance since the disappearance, Buakaw yesterday apologized to his fans but said he had decided to quit the camp after much deliberation.

“I have been poorly treated since 2009 and enough is enough,” he told reporters at Media Studio Company on Lat Phrao Soi 101. “I can stand tough training, but not poor treatment. It is about mind, not the body,” said Buakaw, who left the camp with his trainer Saichon Thammarong.

He did not identify who had allegedly mistreated him.

While he missed out on two pay days as a result of the fight cancellations, Buakaw said his personal feelings were more important than money.

The boxer said he had stayed in Bangkok during his week-long absence, but refused to disclose the location. “I stayed in Bangkok. I didn’t train. I just lived in my room,” he said.

The Surin native said he did not know when he would resume training but said whatever his next move, it would be without the Por Pramuk camp.

Buakaw said he would not consider any offers from other camps and would instead train himself.

“I will have my own camp or retire,” he said.
